Arrow

Arrow (2012-2020)

Arrow is one of the longest-running tv shows of all time. It launched the Arrowverse franchise in great fashion. It became an instant hit because of its dark atmosphere, good comic timings, amazing performances, and exciting action sequences. All of its seasons were outstanding except the sixth season. It received strong criticism for deviating from the main storyline. After delivering a power-packed finale, the sixth entry lost all the heat. Additionally, it was criticized for the dull characterization of the main villain. However, it is still considered a great superhero show.

Agent Carter

Agent Carter (2015-2016)

Agent Carter is one of those unlucky tv-series that were cancelled due to low television ratings. However, it has received strong critical acclaim for both seasons. Hayley Atwell’s charisma filled a new fire to the character of Peggy Carter. This series focused more on her personal and professional issues. How she copes with Steve’s loss is heart touching. It also features Dominic Cooper (Howard Stark) and James D’Arcy (Jarvis) in the supporting roles.

Luke Cage

Luke Cage (2016-2018)

Like many other shows, Luke Cage also became another victim of Netflix. The streaming platform has been widely criticized for axing many great shows. There were rumours that Marvel wanted to move these shows to Disney+. But that did not happen. Well, we cannot change the past. But we can appreciate the hard work of the makers of the show. They did a phenomenal job. Mike Colter did justice to the role of Luke Cage. The star-studded supporting cast of Rosario Dawson, Mahershala Ali, Alfre Woodard, and others performed exceptionally well.

Batman Beyond

Batman Beyond (1999-2001)

We cannot imagine someone replacing Batman (Bruce Wayne) as the saviour of the crime-ridden Gotham City. But the duo of Bruce Timm and Paul Dini played a huge gamble when they introduced the character of Terry McGinnis as the new Batman. This version of Batman initially received a lot of criticism. But soon, it garnered a hugely positive reception from the fans and the critics. Special praise was directed to the energetic, childish, and cocky personality of McGinnis. We know Bruce as a handsome and spoiled playboy who becomes very serious and laser-focused as Batman. McGinnis turned out to be the complete opposite of Bruce. His charming and talkative personality won the hearts of millions of fans.

The show also received acclaim for taking a futuristic take on Gotham City (Neo-Gotham). We also get to see some advanced technological and cyberpunk elements here. Additionally, Bruce becomes Terry’s mentor.

Legion

Legion (2017-2019)

Legion is dark, complex, and a bit terrifying. But that’s what makes it so exciting to watch. It is considered one of the most mind-twisting superheroes shows ever. Dan Stevens plays the role of Legion (David Haller). His character was a schizophrenic patient in childhood. Later, it is revealed that he is one of the most powerful mutants in the world. An evil mutant, Shadow King, occupied his mind when he was very young. Later in the series, he also finds out that the great Charles Xavier is his biological father.

The Boys

The Boys (2019-present)

Superheroes are always hailed as the protectors of humanity who possess kind and positive personalities. Well, this show proves that they can be real SOBs. Nothing looks more horrifying than a superhero destroying all the morals and standards of being a superhero. A big corporation, Vought International, hires a group of superheroes for promoting its name and fame. In reality, these ‘supes’ are dysfunctional, immoral, and filled with too much ego. A team of ordinary humans, The Boys, sets a goal to reveal the true nature of these superheroes and Vought to the people. Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) is the leader of the human group. His wife was raped by Homelander (Antony Starr). Yup, Homelander is a sick SOB.

Spider-Man: The Animated Series

Spider-Man: The Animated Series (1994-1998)

Do you remember this show’s iconic guitar opening theme? If yes, then you are a true Marvel fan. It is one of the greatest animated shows in the history of Marvel Comics. It was widely applauded for being faithful to the comics. The character of Peter Parker on the show became an instant favourite. The voice performances of the cast breathed new fire into the characters. This show is a perfect example of how a superhero’s personal life should be explored and displayed to the audience. However, disagreements between Avi Arad and Margaret Loesch resulted in the early cancellation of the show. Still, it managed to deliver five fantastic seasons to the fans.

The Flash

The Flash (2014-present)

Arrow might have received the honour of being the opening show of Arrowverse. But we also know that the best show of that franchise is none other than The Flash. This show brings a perfect balance between the comic and the serious moments. We cannot imagine anyone other than Grant Gustin for the role of Barry Allen (Flash). He loses his mother at an early age. His father gets wrongly framed for her murder. While working as a police forensic investigator, he gets hit by a powerful lightning strike that grants him superpowers. The show is well-known for bringing some amazing villains to the audience. The supporting cast does a fine job too.

Daredevil

daredevil

Daredevil (2015-2018)

Netflix broke the hearts of millions of fans when it decided to cancel Daredevil for good. After dispatching a breathtaking and cliffhanger finale of the third season, pulling the plug from the show was not a good decision at all. Fans were furious and heartbroken over the loss of their favourite superhero show. But it seems like the executives at Netflix had some other plans. But we cannot forget the greatness of the show. Fans loved the characterizations, dark atmosphere, fighting sequences, violence, and cast performances. Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock/Daredevil) became the heartbeat of the show. And how can we forget the magnificent performance of Vincent D’Onofrio (Kingpin)?

This show is about a blind lawyer named Matt Murdock who loses his vision in a chemical accident. But he gains some superhuman abilities as a result of that accident. As he grows, he learns how to control his powers and wears the mantle of Daredevil.

Batman: The Animated Series

Batman: The Animated Series (1992-1995)

This show clearly deserves the number one spot on this list. Instead of going for its trademark violent and dark tone, DC decided to make this series more sophisticated than any other entry. We still get amazed by watching a perfect balance between the maturity and the silliness of the show. The storylines were gripping. Additionally, the musical score and animation were outstanding in every way. But the most amazing part about this show is the performances of the voice cast. Many voice actors have come and gone but only Kevin Conroy’s voice possessed the charm and charisma of Bruce Wayne. His gritty and serious tone as Batman made us fall in love with his iconic voice. And we cannot even imagine other than Mark Hamill for the voice of Joker. All the characters were portrayed perfectly. Other than Joker, various Batman’s Rogue Gallery members like Penguin, Riddler, Poison Ivy, Harvey Quinn, Scarecrow, and others are also present in this show.
