Harry S. Truman
Harry S. Truman (April 12, 1945 to January 20, 1953) came to control subsequent to filling in as VP during Franklin Roosevelt’s last term in office. Following Roosevelt’s demise, Truman directed the U.S. through the end a long time of World War II, including the choice to involve the new nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan.
In the years after the conflict, relations with the Soviet Union immediately crumbled into a “Chilly War” that would go on until the 1980s. Under Truman’s authority, the U.S. sent off the Berlin Airlift to battle a Soviet barricade of the German capital and made the extravagant Marshall Plan to revamp war-torn Europe. In 1950, the country became buried in the Korean War, which would outlive Truman’s administration.
