Top 10 Dwayne Johnson Movies

If you smell what The Rock is cooking!

After dazzling the WWE universe for nearly eight years with his memorable signature moves, trash-talking style, and electrifying persona, Dwayne Johnson shifted his focus to Hollywood. After debuting with the second instalment of The Mummy franchise, he starred in a lot of commercially and critically failed projects. But he “Rock Bottom-ed” his bad luck with Fast Five (2011). Since then, he has established himself as one of the highest-earning actors in Hollywood. His projects have grossed more than $10.5 billion globally.

Here are the top 10 movies of The Brahma Bull! Enjoy!

The Rundown

The Rundown (2003)

The Rundown is one of the best projects of Johnson’s early acting career. He displayed his acting chops comfortably here. The unique leading pair of him and Scott worked out just fine. Despite turning out a box office disappointment, it is considered one of his best movies ever! He plays the role of bounty hunter whose goal is to find the whereabouts of his employer’s son. Rosario Dawson and Christopher Walken are also a part of this film.

Jumanji: The Next Level

Jumanji: The Next Level (2019)

Despite heavily depending on the core elements from its predecessor, The Next Level does not fail in providing fresh entertainment to the viewers. The gang of Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Karen Gillan, and Nick Jonas returns to face the odds in the adventurous gaming world of Jumanji. Spencer decides to re-enter the game as he misses being Dr Bravestone. Accidentally, he gets a new gaming avatar named Ming. Later, his friends and his grandpa also become a part of the game as well. This time, a new villain by the name of Jurgen the Brutal awaits their arrival.

Hobbs and Shaw

Hobbs and Shaw (2019)

Hobbs and Shaw is the most overstuffed and over-the-top Fast & Furious instalment ever! But it is also one hell of an adventurous and entertaining ride! The team of Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham tries to stop a terrorist named Brixton Lore, whose cybernetic implants grant him superhuman abilities. Or should we call him the Black Superman? Anyway, the leading duo performs alongside Vanessa Kirby and Helen Mirren in this movie. Its action sequences are insane and unimaginable. But it does not lose the feel of the overall F&F franchise.

The Fate of the Furious

The Fate of the Furious (2017)

This movie fails to reach the heights of its predecessor, Furious 7, by many miles. Still, it has enough gas in its tanks to blow our minds with a good storyline and exhilarating action sequences. It might have failed to top its previous entry. But it certainly serves as a worthy entry in this action-packed franchise. Most of the cast (except Paul Walker and Jordana Brewster) returns here. It also gives the gang their most formidable adversary in the form of Cipher (Charlize Theron). Dom starts a new life with Letty. But Cipher’s arrival in his life forces him to betray his own family.

Central Intelligence

Central Intelligence (2016)

Central Intelligence marked the first collaboration between Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart. It also helped them in becoming close friends in real life. It may seem a bit off in some scenes. But the chemistry between Johnson and Hart is mesmerizing. The moment we see them together, we know something special is cooking up here. The latter is a forensic accountant in the film who suffers from various personal issues. His life turns upside down with the arrival of his former high-school mate and CIA agent, Robbie (Johnson).

Fast & Furious 6

Fast & Furious 6 (2013)

The sixth instalment of the Fast & Furious saga gave a new direction to the overall franchise by focusing on spy and adventure genres rather than fixating on the conventional heist thriller format. And the result was a bit overblown but satisfying. Agent Hobbs (Johnson) offers a chance to the gang to clear their names and live their lives freely by helping him catching a fugitive named Owen Shaw. They also find out Letty’s whereabouts and her connection with Owen in this film.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017)

Despite serving as a direct sequel to the 1995 entry, this movie provides a totally different plot and settings to the viewers. Its transition from a board game to a video game was positively received by the fans of the original one. A group of four high school students accidentally get sucked into this game and find themselves in unique gaming avatars. Their objective is to complete the game and place the “Jaguar’s Eye”, a green-coloured jewel, back to its old place. Moviegoers and critics liked the chemistry of all four leading performers in this project. It went on to gross more than $900 million on the global box office.

Fast Five

Fast Five (2011)

The movie that bestowed the tag of global megastar to Dwayne Johnson… Fast Five! When everyone thought that his movie career was done and dusted, the role of Agent Hobbs changed everything for him. It helped him in getting the lead roles in the future. His performance showed that he is more than an entertainer. Toretto’s gang find its name on the most wanted list of U.S. Diplomatic Security Service. They plan to steal $100 million from a dishonest Brazillian businessman. However, things get a little tricky when their paths entangle with Agent Hobbs.

Furious 7

Furious 7 (2015)

Furious 7 was undoubtedly one of the most anticipated movies of 2015. Largely due to the unfortunate demise of its leading star, Paul Walker. The movie did not fail in giving a satisfying tribute to him at the end. If we look at it from Johnson’s perspective, we will find that he gets very low screentime here compared to his other F&F appearances. Still, he manages to keep his persona fresh and entertaining. All the members of Dom’s gang begin to live normal lives until Deckard Shaw arrives in their lives to seek vengeance for his fatally injured brother, Owen Shaw.

Moana

Moana (2016)

Moana is the best cinematic project in the outstanding filmography of Dwayne Johnson. It was immensely praised for its eye-popping visuals, voice performances, songs, and amazing plot. Johnson’s voice role as Maui was one of the major highlights of the movie. It tells the adventurous story of Moana and the demigod Maui. She gets handpicked by the ocean to deliver the relic to goddess Te Fiti. She also ends up saving the lives of her people.
