Horror maestro, Sam Raimi, shocked every comic book fan with his flawless and exhilarating cinematic adaptation of Spider-Man in 2002. It gave a solid chance to Marvel Studios to compete against their other comic rivals at that time. Before its release, prominent film studios showed no interest in investing their money in superhero flicks. But the first instalment of Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man trilogy changed everything. If only we could have gotten a perfect and satisfying conclusion to it. Despite its overstuffed and jumbled third entry, it became one of the highest-grossing movie franchises of all time.

Here are the top 10 characters of the original Spider-Man trilogy!

Eddie Brock (Venom)

Venom/Eddie Brock (Topher Grace)

Venom is one of the biggest badasses in the comics. However, it turned into a complete joke in Spider-Man 3. It is probably the most controversial character of the original trilogy. Director Sam Raimi was not interested in adding Venom here. But thanks to Avi Arad, he forcefully added this iconic comic character into the project. As a result, the movie became a phenomenal mess. Giving a short screen time to a well-known antihero proved to be very costly for the makers.

Flint Marko (Sandman)

Sandman/Flint Marko (Thomas Haden Church)

Despite having a proper emotional background, Sandman never connected with the fans the way Dr Ock or Goblin did. Additionally, Church’s performance as the bad-turned-good guy attracted a mixed response from the critics and the viewers. A lot of people strongly believe that Marvel could have cast a better performer for this role. Overall, he did a decent job with what he was given in the film.

Gwen Stacy

Gwen Stacy (Bryce Dallas Howard)

We still do not know whether the addition of Gwen Stacy in Spider-Man 3 was necessary or not? We are not going to lie to you all here. But even Jameson’s character looked much better than her. Poor Bryce! Gwen Stacy is one of the most important characters in the Spidey universe. But she was treated like trash in Spider-Man 3. Still, kudos to Bryce Dallas Howard for doing a pretty good job on a shortly-written character.

J. Jonah Jameson

J. Jonah Jameson (J. K. Simmons)

Jameson is undoubtedly the most entertaining character of the authentic Spidey trilogy. Simmons received very low screentime as compared to other performers in this series. But he lived every second of Jameson’s quirky and over-the-top persona. Special thanks to the fans for immortalizing this character!

May Parker

May Parker (Rosemary Harris)

We have witnessed comic book fans constantly fighting over the best Spidey among Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland. But when it comes to Aunt May, there is no one better than Rosemary Harris! Period! She portrayed the best version of Peter’s only living guardian in the movies. Her comforting and heart-warming aura surely wins the hearts of the viewers.

Harry Osborn (New Goblin)

Harry Osborn/New Goblin (James Franco)

Dane DeHaan’s performance as Harry Osborn in TASM series is nowhere near James Franco’s unforgettable portrayal of the same character in the original trilogy. Harry’s overall character growth in Sam Raimi’s Spidey series is incredible to watch. Following the footsteps of his evil father, he also dons the suit of Green Goblin. But thanks to his good heart, he finds himself fighting with Peter against the Sandman and Venom in the end.

Mary Jane Watson

Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst)

We do not know if anyone could have portrayed the role of MJ like Kirsten Dunst did. She looked phenomenal in every Spidey instalment she worked in. Like Harry, her character also matured as the overall Spidey saga progressed. She travels a long journey from a waitress to a successful theatre artist in this trilogy. OMG! She still takes our breath away!

Norman Osborn (Green Goblin)

Norman Osborn/Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe)

Willem Dafoe is widely known for delivering committed and outstanding acting performances. He has played many iconic roles in his prestigious career. But his most prominent one is none other than Green Goblin! Dafoe perfectly handles the contrast personas of Norman Osborn and Green Goblin. The way he used to switch back and forth in both characters was simply breathtaking. The true Goblin!

Otto Octavius (Dr Octopus)

Otto Octavius/Dr Octopus (Alfred Molina)

Dr Octopus is the best villain among all cinematic Spider-Man franchises, period! Alfred Molina was the perfect choice for this enigmatic villainous character. He perfectly displayed both the good and the bad sides of his character. Dr Ock was already a famous Spidey villain. But Molina changed it into an indelible character. All hail Dr Octopus!

Peter Parker/Spider-Man

Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tobey Maguire)

The diehard fans of the original Spider-Man trilogy still consider Tobey Maguire as the best Spidey ever! His ability to bring out Parker’s vulnerable side, kindness, soft-heartedness, and innocence was just dazzling. Maguire brilliantly showcased Peter’s true love for MJ and his spirit to do the right thing. For some time, he became a big baddie under the influence of Venom’s symbiote. But thanks to his conscience for bringing back the Peter Parker we knew for so long.
